Tired of the Cold and Snow?

March 1, 2015
Who would ever believe the crazy winter that we have had throughout the entire United States.  Many of us have almost hibernated this winter and can't hardly wait for the snow to thaw.  As that happens, we will be walking more and just getting out to enjoy the outdoors again.  When we start getting out more, I cannot express enough how we have to put our awareness skills back to work for us.  Don't forget, that awareness and preparedness, are the key to enjoying the upcoming spring that we have been so looking forward to it's arrival!
Just a few safety tips:
Be sure to check out your surroundings as you step out the door.
As soon as you get in your car, hit the manual locks even before you insert the key.
When getting gas, take your keys out and lock the car.
If you have car problems, have a plan.  Have a road service, a friend to call, etc.  But never accept help from a stranger.  True, there still are good samaritans around, but how do you tell who is there to help or who is there to harm.
Happy, and safe spring to everyone!
Nancy

Walkers and Bikers Stay Safe!

June 5, 2014
Wow, what a winter!  Now that summer has finally arrived, we start to spend more time out and about.  That is the time that we need to be more aware of our surroundings!  I see many walkers or bikers going along with ear pieces and music blaring, texting on their phones, and having no idea what is going on around them.  That is just inviting trouble.  Please, if you walk or bike on a regular schedule, change it up as far as your time and your route, so you won't be so predictable.  Also, carr...

Our Cause Made the News

March 24, 2014
Sometimes I wonder if people are really listening to what I have to say about your personal safety and then I get a phone call from NBC 4 News and they want to tell our story to help others to be safe.  They came out to a Senior Center to interview us and show our program and then broadcast it on the six o'clock news.  I am attaching the link to the news video, so you can get a glimpse of what we do.

Happy and Safe New Year!

January 23, 2014
I am a little late in wishing you all a Happy New Year, but I finally did get around to it!  The Safe New Year is my wish because it seems to be more unsafe every year!  We have to be more aware and prepared than ever!  Isn't it sad that people are afraid to go to the Winter Olympics because of the threat of terrorism!  Some people in this country are afraid to go out because of the increase in crime everywhere.  Isn't that the same difference?  We all deserve to live our lives in the most no...

A Split Second

November 3, 2013
Life can change in a split second!  I found that out on June 8th of this year.  My husband had a major stroke and I was fortunate enough to call 911 immediately and he was taken to Grant Hospital and then Life Flighted to Riverside Hospital for a procedure to retrieve the life threatening blood clot!  He is a miracle because he is alive and walking and talking but experiencing some memory issues. I have been running a little behind on some things, but things are beginning to smooth out somewh...

A Safe Send-off to School!

August 23, 2013
Hard to believe that Summer is over and fall, school, and football are ready to begin!  Seems like Summer gets shorter every year.  This year my granddaughter is attending her first year of College away from home.  It is exciting and scarey for her at the same time!  We had a send-off cookout at her house last weekend and we took her some protection devises for when she is on her own.  We had a family discussion about safety issues and I would hope all families would have this discussion with...

K-9 Fundraiser

July 21, 2013
On Saturday we hosted a Madison Township Fundraiser for the K-9 Unit.  The FOE 3261 was gracious to donate the hall for the event and it was and exciting day!  We had many donations, great Vendors, prize drawings, a D.J with Karaoke and best of all, an informative demonstration by the K-9 Unit!  Many people do not realize the importance of a K-9 in fighting Crime!  Also, many K-0 Units are not funded and they have to earn money through events and donations.  We were happy to help and hope to ...

Life is good!

July 2, 2013
Today I would like to talk about how precious every minute of our life is.  On June 8th my husband and I were having dinner and the next minute he was being life-flighted to the hospital with a life threatening stroke.  We are so thankful for the Doctors who worked so quickley to save him and the continued care he received at the hospital and in rehab.  He is now home and we still have some work to do on his memory and certain skills, but he is in fact considered a miracle!  He can walk and t...

Accidents Happen

April 21, 2013

Accidents Happen!

I really don’t want to have to use my safety products, but we recently had to use our Auto Emergency Tool.  We were traveling about 65mph on the Interstate when a pickup truck dropped a load of metal pieces right in front of us.  Both of our driver side tires blew and the wheels and rims broke.  Another vehicle lost a passenger side tire and we were both very fortunate to not be injured.  While waiting for the police and road service, we placed the Auto Emergency tool on ...

How safe are your credit cards?

February 25, 2013

Many times I will have people send me articles about different scams and ways that people want to steal from us.  If you go to a fitness place and put your clothes in a locker, you should check your wallet before you leave.  Someone had their locker broken into and looked to see if everything was in place and it appeared to be.  However, this person got a credit card bill for 14,000.00 and then checked to see if the credit card had been stolen.  Upon examination, this person found that his cr...
